Updates on East African Crude Oil Pipeline (EACOP) Project

Honourable Bahame Tom Murkiya Nyanduga, Chairman AU Watch

African Union Watch (AUW), an independent Pan African NGO, has called on the council of the European Union (EU) to reject the ‘hateful resolution’ (Resolution 2022/2826/RSP) adopted by the European Parliament on 14/09/2022, seeking that the East African Crude Oil Pipeline (EACOP) project be disbanded and calling on EU member states to punish Tanzania and Uganda for embarking on such a project.

AUW, has drawn attention to the success recorded to date on the Tanzania-Zambia pipeline built since 1970s without such prohibitive sanctions. Stating that African countries contribute less than 4% to global greenhouse emission. Further stating that whilst EU countries are now exploring coal as an alternative to gas for the survival of its economy, due to shortage of gas linked to the on-going Ukraine-Russia war, African countries more so, will continue to pursue legitimately and unhindered the best options to power their development.

Honourable Bahame Tom Murkiya Nyanduga, Chairman AU Watch
