The Opening Ceremony of the Julius Nyerere Hydropower Project (JNHPP)

On 22nd December, 2022, Her Excellency, President Samia Suluhu Hassan graced the opening ceremony of the Julius Nyerere Hydropower Project (JNHPP) for the water filling, for the envisioned generation of 2,115 megawatts (MW) of electricity. This dam is a dream fulfilled, a dream that dates back to 1961 post independence, expressed clearly by the Father of the nation, Mwalimu Julius Nyerere. It was initiated by the fifth phase government of late President John Pombe Magufuli. “The Julius Nyerere Hydropower dam will help in controlling the frequent floods in Rufiji; used in irrigation schemes, open many tourism opportunities in the southern part of the country.

On 22nd December 2022, H. E. Benson Alfred Bana, High Commissioner, held a meeting with Chief Isaac Emmil Osei-Bonsu, Honorary Consul,  Consulate of Jamaica, Senior Partner, Minkah-Premo & Co. and Chairman, National Communications Authority, Ghana. The discussion was focused on sustainable strategies for promoting trade, wooing Ghanaian investors and tourism stakeholders with a view to exposing Zanzibar as a tourist destination for tourists from Ghana.

On 21st December 2022, H. E. Benson Alfred Bana, High Commissioner, had a meeting with Professor Emeritus Kofi Fynn, Chancellor of Winsconsin University International College, Ghana. The purpose of the meeting was to explore potential areas of collaboration between higher education institutions from Tanzania and Ghana, consequently taking the bilateral relations to greater heights.

Ambassador Celestine Joseph Mushy (RIP) The High Commission of the United Republic of Tanzania in Abuja, Nigeria expresses its condolences to the family, leadership, management and staff of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and East African Cooperation on the passing of Ambassador Celestine Joseph Mushy who was accredited to Austria. The passing of Amb. Mushy is a great loss not only to his family but also to our country. We pray the Almighty God to give us the fortitude to bear the irreparable loss. Rest in Peace Ambassador Mushy.

Dr. Benson Alfred Bana, High Commissioner of the United Republic of Tanzania to the Federal Republic of Nigeria was received by the Vice Chancellor of the University of Abuja, Nigeria, Professor Abdul-Rasheed Na’Allah and the Leadership of the University on his visit to explore the possibility of linking the University of Abuja with State University of Zanzibar, Tanzania. Conversations centred among other things on introducing Kiswahili study into the curricular of the University of Abuja and staff exchange programme.

On 25th November, 2022, the management of the University of Dar es Salaam (Tanzania) and University of Port Harcourt (Nigeria) signed a Memorandum of Understanding, paving the way for academic collaboration, including cooperation in respect of Kiswahili teaching. This collaboration was made possible through the facilitation of Tanzania High Commission, Abuja.

Itembe, and Professor Adesoji Adesugba, Managing Director, Nigeria Export Processing Zones Authority (NEPZA). The Directors exchanged experiences on matters of mutual interest to their organizations and set the stage for a structured bilateral cooperation between the two organization.

She was recognized by the University for her immense contribution in the education sector and humanity.
