FIDSON Healthcare PLC Undertakes a Business Mission to the United Republic of Tanzania.

The High Commission coordinated and facilitated the trade mission of FIDSON Healthcare PLC to Tanzania from 21st - 25th April 2024. While in Tanzania, FIDSON held strategic meetings with TIC, TMDA, MSD, and other important actors in the pharmaceutical sector. FIDSON is planning to invest in Tanzania in the near future.

H. E.  Dr. Samia Suluhu Hassan and H. E. Yoweri Kaguta Museveni     Her Excellency Dr. Samia Suluhu Hassan, President of the United Republic of Tanzania and her Ugandan counterpart, His Excellency Yoweri Kaguta Museveni on Thursday 25th May, 2023 commissioned the Kikagati Hydroelectric Power Project in Isingiro District, South western Uganda. The power station is located across the Kagera River and will produce 16 Megawatts. The project is expected to deliver to Kyerwa and Karagwe districts in Kagera region, access to reliable and affordable electricity.

  On 24th May, 2023 in Accra-Ghana, the High Commissioner, received Hon. Omar Said Shaaban, Minister of Trade and Industrial Development, Zanzibar as well as Hon. Eng. Zena Ahmed Said, Chief Secretary, Revolutionary Government of Zanzibar. They are in Accra to participate in the African Leadership Forum, organized by the Tanzania based Uongozi Institute and AfCFTA Secretariat in Ghana.

The Air Tanzania Company Limited – ATCL’s Global Expansion has hit its all time high as the airline plans entry to major cities like Lagos, and Accra the West African Commercial hubs, as well as London, Dubai, Muscat, Juba and Lilongwe and other SADC destinations. Africa must drive its connectivity to enhance business relation to actualize its AfCFTA agenda.

Tanzania State House, Dodoma Tanzania High Commission joins H. E. Dr. Samia Suluhu Hassan, President of the United Republic of Tanzania and the citizenry to celebrate the inauguration of the new state-of-the-art State House in Dodoma on 20th May, 2023. The brand new State House was financed by Government and built by local technicians. The late Father of the Nation, Mwalimu J. K. Nyerere and the late 5th Phase President J. P. Magufuli were posthumously awarded special plaques in recognition of their contributions towards the construction of the new State House.

On 18th May 2023 in Lagos, H. E. Dr. Benson Alfred Bana conveyed the good news to Mrs. Ayodele Olatokunbo Mabogunje, in connection to the approval of the Government of the Federal Republic of Nigeria for her to serve as Honorary Consul of the United Republic of Tanzania to Lagos, the Federal Republic of Nigeria. Mrs. Mabogunje is the immediate past President of Lagos Chamber of Commerce and Industry (LCCI).

Dr Benson Alfred Bana, High Commissioner of Tanzania to Nigeria received Dr. Ayub Rioba Chacha, Director General Tanzania Broadcasting Corporation at the Chancery in Abuja, Nigeria. Dr. Rioba is in Nigeria to attend the 14th Ordinary Session of the General Assembly of the African Union of Broadcasting (AUB) held from 16th - 20th May, 2023.

On 18th May, 2023, H. E. Dr Benson Bana and Ms. Mercy Alexander of D’ Gallery TV (online TV) had preliminary discussions in Lagos on the latter’s planned trip to Zanzibar in June, 2023. A team of 5 experts from D’ Gallery TV is expected to visit Zanzibar on the invitation of Mr. Rahim Bhaloo, Chairperson of Zanzibar Association of Tourism Investors (ZATI). They will produce a documentary on Zanzibar tourists attractions and her rich heritage. Zanzibar is the most preferred tourists destination for Nigerian travelers.

The High Commission joins Her Excellency Dr. Samia Suluhu Hassan, President of the United Republic of Tanzania and the citizens to congratulate Young Africans (YANGA) for an impressive performance in CAF Confederation Cup semi-final. Yanga’s victory against Rivers of Nigeria did inspire the team to perform superbly elsewhere. We are appreciative of the President’s support for Yanga. With determination, rigor and patriotism, the 2023 CAF Confederation Cup is for Young Africans.

On 18th May 2023 in Lagos, the High Commissioner held discussion with Mr. Nwachukwu Kingsley and his colleagues in Nigeria Tourism Lovers (NTL) and MARDIS Travels. The discussion was intended to promote tourism destinations and attractions in Zanzibar and on Tanzania mainland for the Nigeria travelers community using inflight magazines.

On 12th May, 2023, H. E. Dr. Benson Alfred Bana, High Commissioner of Tanzania to Nigeria received a delegation from the Foundation for Leadership & Education Development (FLED) on a courtesy call. The FLED Team led by its President, Dr. Joseph Ibekwe seeks to explore possible educational and cultural exchange cooperation between FLED and counterpart organizations in the United Republic of Tanzania. FLED is an acronym for the incorporated trustees of Foundation for Leadership & Education Development. It is an NGO established in 1995 to build the economic and leadership capacities of women and youths to enable them participate in development processes. It has a Mandate to promote transformational leadership development in Africa. The High Commissioner assured FLED the necessary cooperation geared at advancing Tanzania and Nigeria bilateral ties.

Tanzania Announces its Candidacy for the President of the Inter-Parliamentary Union (IPU)

On 11th May, 2023, the government of the United Republic of Tanzania announced its Speaker of the National Assembly, Dr. Tulia Ackson as the candidate for the Presidency of the Inter-Parliamentary Union (IPU), stating that Dr.Tulia Ackson possess unmatched qualifications, experience, and commitment to democracy that are relevant for the job. The IPU is an international organization of national parliaments, empowering parliaments and parliamentarians to promote peace, democracy and sustainable development. The President of IPU is the Head of the Executive Committee which is the decision-making organ of the Union. The Union is made up of about 179 parliamentarians out of the 193 countries with legislative bodies in the world. The IPU is currently headed by a Portuguese national, Mr Duarte Pacheco, and expects to select its new leader during the 147th assembly to be held from October 23rd to October 27th, 2023 in Luanda, Angola.

International Culture Fest at the National Defence College, Abuja- Nigeria

Today, 12th May, 2023, the Participants of National Defence College Course 31 celebrated the International Culture Fest. Participants were drawn from 20 countries including Tanzania, Uganda, South Africa, Botswana, India Bangladesh, Cote d'Ivoire, Benin, The Gambia, Nigeria e.t.c. The Tanzania High Commission was on ground to showcase Tanzania products, food and artifacts.

The High Commission is deeply saddened by the untimely death of Hon. Bernard Kamillius Membe, Former Minister of Foreign Affairs and East African Cooperation of the United Republic of Tanzania (2007-2015). He will be remembered for his contribution to the leadership of Tanzania, specifically for advancing Tanzania’s external relations.
