The High Commission of the United Republic of Tanzania, Abuja-Nigeria

It was an honour and privilege for the outgoing High Commissioner, H. E. Amb. Dr. Benson Alfred Bana, to receive Diplomatic World TV’s “Prestigious Personality Award” presented to him by Amb. Tolu Ayodele, MD/CEO in recognition of the High Commissioner’s exemplary contribution to advancing the Tanzania-Nigeria bilateral relations to greater heights during his tour of duty. Dr. Bana leaves Abuja for Dar es Salaam in the first week of November 2023.

It was a pleasure and gratifying moment as the SADC Ambassadors Group in Abuja bade farewell to their colleague, the outgoing High Commissioner of Tanzania to Nigeria, H. E. Dr. Benson Alfred Bana, who has successfully completed his tour of duty to the Federal Republic of Nigeria and other 14 countries of accreditation. The farewell dinner  was held at Exclusive Serene Hotel, Abuja on 28th October, 2023. Amb. Benson Bana will leave Abuja in the first week of November ‘23.

The High Commission profoundly congratulates Rt. Hon. Dr. Tulia Ackson Mwansasu, Speaker of the Tanzania Parliament, on being elected as the 31st President of the Inter-Parliamentary Union (IPU).  Her victory is an honour for Tanzania and Africa and democracy. She garnered 172 out of all 303 votes cast equivalent to  57%, defeating her three competitors from Malawi, Senegal and Somalia. The election was held today, 27 October 2023 during the 147th IPU Assembly in Luada, Angola. The votes for IPU President was as follow:  Tanzania - 172 Malawi - 61  Senegal - 59 Somalia - 11 

Tanzania embarked on an industrialization drive towards attaining middle income economy by 2025, and achieved it in 2020. However, the Government continues to work hard to equip the economy for the targeted job creation and economic growth, which will drive and advance the industrialization process. The Government in its bid to expand the country’s power base, a requirement for sustainable industrialization, has signed a loan agreement of $161,74million with the African Development Bank (AfDB), as part of the funds required for executing the Kagera-based kakono hydropower project. The project is estimated to cost Tsh. 700billion and will be jointly financed through loans and grants from the European Union, Agence Française de Développement (AFD) Group and AfDB. The outgoing High Commissioner, Amb. Dr. Benson Alfred Bana, is proud of the team of Home Based Diplomats (HBD). Teamwork has always been our spirit and, in deed, it has paid dividends in terms of performance results and deliverables. The pre-farewell photo session was one of the cherished moments.

On 25th October 2023, Ambassador Dr. Benson Alfred Bana received H. E. Matsunaga Kazuyoshi, Ambassador of Japan to Nigeria. He bade farewell to Dr. Bana who has just completed his tour of duty in Nigeria.

  The High Commission wishes Rt. Hon. Dr. Tulia  Ackson, Speaker of Tanzania Parliament good luck in her journey to become President of Inter-Parliamentary Union (IPU) as the world body elects its 31st President at the 147th Assembly in Luanda, Angola on 27th October 2023.

It was a pleasure and honour to have farewell dinner with His Excellency, Sir (Dr.) Chief Gabriel Osawaru Igbinedion, the Esama of Benin Kingdom, at his Palace in Abuja on 16 October, 2023. Amb. Dr. Benson Alfred Bana accompanied by H. E. Amb. T.D. Mseleku, High Commissioner of South Africa and their spouses were invitees of the Esama for special dinner in honor of Dr. Bana on completion of his tour of duty in Nigeria.

Monday, 16 October 2023, at the Residence, Amb. Dr. Benson Alfred Bana, received H.E. Maxwell Ranga, Ambassador of Republic of Zimbabwe to Nigeria. Amb. Ranga’s courtesy visit was intended to bid farewell to Amb. Bana who has completed his tenure as High Commissioner, Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the United Republic of Tanzania to Nigeria with concurrent accreditation to other 14 West African Countries. Dr. Bana will leave Abuja in the first week of November 2023.

Humphrey Geiseb, High Commissioner of the Republic of Namibia to Nigeria and Dean of SADC Ambassadors’ Group in Abuja. Amb. Geiseb’s courtesy visit was intended to bid farewell to Amb. Bana who has completed his tenure as High Commissioner, Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the United Republic of Tanzania to Nigeria with concurrent accreditation to other 14 West African Countries. Dr. Bana will leave Abuja in the first week of November 2023.

Dr. Bana will leave Abuja in the first week of November 2023.

  The High Commission congratulates H. E. Dr. Samia Suluhu Hassan, President of the United Republic of Tanzania, on her conferment of Doctor of Philosophy Honorary Degree (Honoris Causa) by Jawaharlal Nehru University, New Delhi, India. The well-deserved honour is a clear testimony of Her Excellency’s demonstrable pro-people transformational leadership in Tanzania. Long live Tanzania and India bilateral cooperation.

On 6th October 2023, it was a pleasure and honour for Amb. Dr. Benson Alfred Bana and Brig. Gen. JK Kadawi, Defense Attaché, to bid farewell to Rt. Hon. Dr. Tulia Ackson (MP), Speaker of the National Assembly of the United Republic of Tanzania at Kotoka International Airport Accra, Ghana. The Speaker and her delegation, including five Members of Parliament and the Clerk of the National Assembly were in Accra from 03-06 October, 2023 to participate in the 66th Commonwealth Parliamentary Conference. Additionally, the Speaker had the opportunity to visit Nkrumah Memorial Park & Mausoleum.

Ambassador Dr. Benson Alfred Bana and Brig. Gen. JK Kadawi, Defense Advisor, had the first working visit to the Tanzania Honorary Consulate in Accra, Ghana. They were welcomed by Hon. Dr. Ken Kwaku, the Honorary Consul. Three office rooms had been set aside for the honorary consulate at Dr. Ken’s Residential premises; the first monthly report on the consulate activities had been submitted to Tanzania High Commission in Abuja; a process of establishing a database of the Tanzanians working and leaving in Ghana is ongoing; and extension of Kiswahili programs in collaboration with the University of Ghana, Legon is “in pipelines.” Ambassador Benson Bana presented more symbols for the Honorary Consulate office; useful stationeries and a Certificate for Tanzania’s first Honorary Consul in the Republic of Ghana.
