On 29/09/2022, H. E. Dr. Benson Alfred Bana was represented by Mr. Philbert Peter, Economic Affairs AttachĆ© at a Public Lecture with title "Elites and National Unity." It is part of the series of events to commemorate the 62nd Independence Anniversary of the Federal Republic of Nigeria.  The Vice President, H. E. Yemi Osinbajo was the Guest of Honour, while Prof. Oladapo A. Afolabi was the Guest Speaker. The event was organized by the Ministry of Information and Culture of Nigeria.

Updates on East African Crude Oil Pipeline (EACOP) Project

  Honourable Bahame Tom Murkiya Nyanduga, Chairman AU Watch African Union Watch (AUW), an independent Pan African NGO, has called on the council of the European Union (EU) to reject the ā€˜hateful resolutionā€™ ( Resolution 2022/2826/RSP ) adopted by the European Parliament on 14/09/2022, seeking that the East African Crude Oil Pipeline (EACOP) project be disbanded and calling on EU member states to punish Tanzania and Uganda for embarking on such a project. AUW, has drawn attention to the success recorded to date on the Tanzania-Zambia pipeline built since 1970 s without such prohibitive sanctions. Stating that African countries contribute less than 4% to global greenhouse emission. Further stating that whilst EU countries are now exploring coal as an alternative to gas for the survival of its economy, due to shortage of gas linked to the on-going Ukraine-Russia war, African countries more so, will continue to pursue legitimately and unhindered the best options to power their devel...

On 23rd and 24th September, 2022, the Tanzania High Commissioner, Dr. Benson Alfred Bana accompanied by the Economic Affairs AttachƩ, Mr. Philbert Peter had a working visit in Cotonou, Republic of Benin. They visited the Industrial Zone project under construction. The massive project is a joint venture between the Government of Benin and ARISE-IIB/GDIZ under PPP arrangement. A business mission will be undertaken by ARISE-IIP in Tanzania to explore the possibility of investing in cashewnut processing, marketing and sales.

  On 21 st September, 2022 the High Commissioner received a delegation from the Umuahia Chamber of Commerce, Industry, Mines and Agriculture (UCCIMA). Discussions were focused on linking UCCIMA with TCCIA and ZNCC. Furthermore, B2B linkages that can facilitate the introduction of Tanzania products to the Eastern Nigeria Market. As well as the possibility of participating in International trade fairs in Tanzania. Abia State is known to have the largest concentration of SMEs in Nigeria and Umuahia is the capital city of Abia State.

  The High Commission is grateful for the participation of key stakeholders in the tourism industry of Nigeria in the brainstorming session on how best to publicize the ā€œRoyal Tour: Tanzaniaā€ film in Nigeria. We thank particularly the President and representatives of the Nigerian Association of Tour Operators (NATOP), CEO of Diplomatic Vista and the CEO of CMD.   The session held on 21st September, 2022.

Her Excellency, Samia Suluhu Hassan Wins The Prestigious SDG Presidential Gold Award

The International Association of World Peace Advocates (IAWPA) has announced H. E. Samia Suluhu Hassan as the winner of the 2022 SDG Presidential Gold Award. Her Excellency is being celebrated for her outstanding display of political wisdom in running an inclusive government and assuring peace and stability in the United Republic of Tanzania. Under her able leadership, Tanzania is now in the league of fastest developing countries on the continent. IAWPA is a global  non-governmental organization  affiliated to the  United Nations Global Compact . Its objective is to promote peace and harmony in various local communities across the globe and to ensure that the aims and objectives of the  United Nations  in the maintenance of global peace is being achieved.

  On 20 th September, 2022, the Leadership of the Nigerian Association of Tour Operators (NATOP) led by the President, Ime Udo, met with the High Commissioner, H. E. Dr. Benson Alfred Bana at the Chancery. Discussions were focused on linking NATOP with likeminded associations in Tanzania for mutually beneficial collaborations. The showcasing of the ā€˜ Royal Tour: Tanzaniaā€™ across Nigeria and subsequent sale of the attractions showcased was on the front burner of the discussions.

  In the 2021 Global Innovation Index (GII), Tanzania was ranked one of the top 5 innovative economies in Africa alongside countries like Mauritania, South Africa, Kenya, and Cabo Verde. The World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO), 2021 GII, was done against the backdrop of the on-going COVID-19 pandemic and its peculiar challenges. Measuring the most innovative economies in the world, using innovative performance of about 132 economies.

Air Tanzania is set to enter the West African Skies, Starting with Ghana and Nigeria

  Air Tanzania is set to enter the West African skies, beginning with direct flight to Ghana and Nigeria. Engr. Ladislaus Matindi, Managing Director and CEO of Air Tanzania Corporation disclosed. This was echoed by H. E. Dr. Benson Alfred Bana, High Commissioner Designate of the United Republic of Tanzania to Ghana with Residence in Nigeria, at the Tanzania-Ghana Tourism, Investment and Trade Forum (TG-TITF), held on the 28 th May 2022 in Accra. He stated that the new route would ease movement of people, goods, services and capital between Ghana and Tanzania and the decision goes well with the spirit of the AfCFTA.

  H. E. Droupadi Murmu, President of India met the President of Tanzania, H. E. Samia Suluhu Hassan, in an official reception at the State Funeral of Her Majesty the Queen Elizabeth II. President Hassan is the first female president of the United Republic of Tanzania.

Roundtable Discussion to reposition the Tourism Sector in Africa by NATOP

  On 19th September, 2022, the Tanzania High Commission participated in a Roundtable Discussion with stakeholders in tourism in Nigeria and within the diplomatic community, led by the Nigerian Association of Tour Operators. The discussions focused on building collaborations for reinvigoration of the tourism sector across Africa, notwithstanding post COVID-19 challenges and in line with AfCFTA agreement.

Her Excellency Samia Suluhu Hassan, President of the United Republic of Tanzania, signing the Condolence Book in London following the demise of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II. The President is in London to join other world leaders for the state funeral.

  On 17th September, 2022, H. E. Dr. Benson Alfred Bana as part of his cultural diplomacy drive in Nigeria, engaged with state actors and myriad of dignitaries to celebrate the Holy Mass in Honour of Sir Chief Dr. Gabriel Osawaru Igbinedion, the Esama of Benin Kingdom. It was his dedication ceremony of Archangel Gabriel Catholic Church, which was part of events marking his 88 th birthday celebration. The event was an exemplary reflection of the seamless interplay of culture and religion in Nigeria. The Church is a massive House of Prayer with estimated capacity of about 8,000 worshippers. The mass was attended among others, by two Cardinals, Archbishops, Bishops, Former President Olusegun Obasanjo, Governor of Edo State, his Deputy, and about 10,000 people.
